I got some AMAZING new equipment last week that I have been dying to get for a really long time… The Canon 35L & 100mm Macro. They definitely lived up to the expectations! The color & clarity of both of these lenses are unreal, and it is really nice to have an upgrade to my previous set up.

Here is the 100mm, shot with the 35L…

This lens has definitely become one of Walter’s favorite lenses, but I love it too. It makes the ring shots look so amazing & the detail shots are very sharp with it.

Here is the 35L, shot with the 100mm…

This lens has become my favorite, it has such amazing color & is so incredibly sharp. I am not used to shooting as much with a wide angle, that’s the only thing I will have to get used to. I know though this will be my go-to lens from now on though!

If you want to see the amazing lenses in action check out my last wedding, the ring was shot with the 100mm & the flower boutonniere was shot with the 35L.

Well, I technically have had this amazing new camera for a few weeks now, but I have so many blog posts line up that I just am getting around to posting it! I got a Canon 5d Mark II & I am so excited. I love it so much! We hope to get Walter one to shoot with very soon too, so that both of the main cameras are Mark IIs & we use the 5d for back up. There should be some great equipment upgrades this year & this is just the first. Also, Walter is practicing a lot to become my second shooter for all my weddings & he is doing great.

Here is my first shot with it, to test it out. It looks lovely even in the dark Lowe’s parking lot!

Walter wanted to show off just how excited I was about it!

Doesn’t he look great shooting? Plus isn’t the color great from the 5D Mark II? I didn’t even do anything but sharpen these!

Plus I took some of random things around the park to test out the Mark II!

Walter took some photos of me to practice! He is getting great at it! I’m a proud fiance.

Plus I took a couple of him!

This one was just for fun! I figured I would share it. I accidentally shrunk him somehow? Or maybe there was just a huge leaf… Oh dear I can’t remember!

I am so excited to get to use this amazing camera out at a wedding! My last portrait session I hope to share soon I shot with it. I can’t wait to play with the video on the camera either, I think we can use it for some amazing things!

Sorry to everyone for not posting a Get-To-Know-Me Thursday! I wanted to wait until today! (I know it doesn’t say it in the title but it is a Get-To-Know-Me Thursday!) I just got a brand new lens yesterday so I wanted to show it off! (I have lots of new products under wraps right now that I can’t wait to show off soon too!)

First off, if you ever wanted to see me in action, Julie Mixon sent me this picture I forgot to show off!

Now onto the equipment… I shoot with a Canon 5d, and have a Canon 30d for backup! I wanted to show everyone the lens I most use. I haven’t posted up a lot of my new equipment so I wanted to show them off! (I have backup gear too, but I use these lenses the most! Backup gear is: Sigma 17-70mm, Sigma 70-300mm, and Canon 50mm f/1.8)

Canon 50mm f/1.4, 28mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8
These are my go-to portrait session lenses. The Canon 50mm f/1.4 is on my camera 90% of the time, (I lovee this lens!) however I pull out the 28mm f/1.8 if I need a wider lens, and the 85mm f/1.8 if I want something closer. I adore the sharpness of these primes!

LEFT: Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L, RIGHT: Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS L
LEFT: This is one of my newer babies (yes they are my babies!) I know I am going to love it for weddings but I got it in off-season so I haven’t had the chance yet! I love it during the portrait sessions I have used it in. It will be perfect for receptions! The color and sharpness out of the L lenses are AMAZING! RIGHT: Now…. my newest baby! I just got this lens yesterday night! Wow I love the sharpness and color that comes out of this lens! I also love the IS on this lens, I tested it out last night at ISO 6400, very sharp even at 1/50 zoomed to 200mm!

Here are some pictures I took today to test it out:

These were shot at 200mm f/2.8:

My cat who is scared of cameras was at least a little bit cooperative since I was pretty far away… except at first when she thought I wanted to steal the bird she had just killed!

I absolutely love the lens so far, and can not wait until I can try it out at a portrait session and it is going to be great for wedding ceremonies! I have a Senior Shoot I can’t wait for on Sunday and a meet-up with some local photographers on Monday! So I will have lots of pictures to post this week.

This is how I felt once I figured out how to use the lights! I totally SAW THE LIGHT!

I finally got to go out and play with my new Pocket Wizard Plus IIs. I was so excited to finally get to play with off-camera lighting all by myself. I am so grateful for the photographer meet-up where I figured out my only problem was not having Pocket Wizards. Well, I was right. Before it took me hours to get one good picture, with my shoot with Walter it took me less than 5 minutes to get it set. Well I finally got Walter out to take photos with me (being the boyfriend of a photographer makes you a little sick of the camera!) and I think he had a whole lot more fun than he thought he would. I am super glad to get to experiment with off-camera lighting and am glad how my first time by myself turned out. I can’t wait to get out more and experiment and learn all my lights can do. Enjoy the photos!

The very first good picture I took with working lights!

The wind kept blowing and I was sure my flash was going to crash to it’s death. Walter feels important though now because his job as my assistant went from “bag holder” to “flash holder”. You have to admit that seems more important right?

He saw the light too!

He said he wanted his new job to be a model for Canon! haha

I set up the camera for Walter, but he did a great job composing the photo of me!

And now onto his, “please get that thing out of my face, I am sick of seeing it” face…

I got the AMAZING chance to meet up with some awesome photographers in the Greenville area and Julie Mixon of http://www.jsmixonphoto.com/ gave us all a little how-to on off-camera lighting, which has confused me for quite a while! So THANKS Julie! I got to meet so many great people such as Laurie Crutchfield of http://www.crutchfieldphotography.com/, Kim Morrisette of http://csmfoto.com/, and Erica Letchworth of http://www.ericaletchworth.com/.
