WELCOME TO THE BLOG

You can see the most recent sessions and weddings here, and get a sneak peak into who I am. Look on the menu bar to learn more about my photography, to see my portfolio, to see behind the scenes, or to contact me. Enjoy looking around the blog and leave a comment if you would like!

I am excited to finally get to blog this beautiful actress’ headshots. Kieran was such a joy to meet and photograph, I know she is definitely going somewhere one day. I told her to remember me when she is a movie star! She has such a bubbly and sweet personality, not to mention she is gorgeous! Good luck with your acting career Kieran I know you are going to do great! Also, check out the blog soon (hopefully Thursday) for some awesome more changes!

Lynda - Beautiful! Hope she goes far!

Thanks for all the interest in the stickers. If anyone else wants stickers please just go here for more info.

The changes weren’t over at the beginning of the year, nor are they quite over yet! I have had a few more changes in my business that are HUGE (and that spurred some more changes coming soon!)

The biggest change right now, is that I am now using a client management software called Tave. It’s honestly a lifesaver and I don’t know how I functioned before it. (and I just started using it too!) I have been spending my past few weeks trying to get it set up and organized. It helps me out so much because all my clients info, quotes, prices, contracts, emails, and so much more are all in one place & easy to find. If you are a photographer and don’t use this GET IT NOW seriously. There are a lot of new things coming in March at WPPI they said too.

What does this mean for clients? This is what I am most excited about. You may have noticed my contact forms are different. I now have contact.heathergarlandweddings.com & contact.heathergarlandportraits.com, this is because when you fill this out it automatically adds your info into my system in the right category! This helps me get a quote so much faster to you!

The biggest change is contracts are now ONLINE! Yes, they are legal and it records a digital footprint when you sign it. This is great because ink, paper, & printing took too much money, time, and was wasteful. Now all I will print is price sheets (or email them if you would rather!). This helps so much, especially at sessions, because it took a lot of time to get everything filled out before we started shooting. Now you just fill out the contract beforehand and we are ready to go.

You can also make payments (it will remind you of them too!) and fill in all your contact info like your birthday, shipping address, etc. You will have your own login too. I will email you a link where you set up a password and then just login in to client.heathergarlandportraits.com or client.heathergarlandweddings.com. Exciting right?

Well that’s not all, look back for a few more really exciting changes soon!

Laura - Is this what you are using for your client sites that you showed on Paperie Boutique?

Lynda - Sounds like a great time saver!

Finally getting around to answer some of the questions I got asked. If you have a question you want answered ask me here: http://www.formspring.me/heathergarland If it’s relevant I will answer it here!

So what inspires me & keeps me inspired? What a loaded question. The biggest thing that inspires me is other photographers. I am subscribed to so many blogs (probably too many) all in my RSS feeds in my Mac Mail. I keep updated with all my favorite photographers from around the country constantly. When I see a pose, a location, a light, an outfit, anything I like I save the image in an inspiration folder on my desktop. Before a shoot or wedding I go to the right folder and look over them. I load any that I love on my iPhone and use them for inspiration. Of course, I never copy the photo I use the pose as inspiration and change it to fit whoever I am photographing.

I also love looking at amazing catalogs for inspiration. This is especially great for seniors. Some good ones are Alloy, Delias, Pacific Sunwear, and especially Antropologie. They all have online catalogs as well. So hope that inspires you too. Also, a good inspiration for clients are these catalogs as well! They have some amazing fashion ideas and some great ideas for what to wear to sessions.

Hilary - I do the same thing. Im glad im not the only one. :) Your photos are def. in my inspiration folder ;)

I had planned on doing a post on my new packaging today, but my packaging got featured on Paperie Boutique!

So instead of typing it all again, go check out my Guest Post. It was such an honor to get to write a guest post for a website I admire so much, and to get so many amazing compliments from people I looked to for inspiration for my packaging. Go check it out, leave a comment, and check out my amazing designer who made everything look so good.

Also, I am considering selling 1 inch & 2 inch round and scalloped stickers. Please send me an email if you would be interested in purchasing these, so I can make a decision if I will or not.
